Animal-assisted therapy facilities

In June 2013, REHAB was able to open the animal-assisted therapy facilities thanks to a generous donation from the Eckenstein-Geigy Foundation.

With the construction of this facility, which expands upon existing hippotherapy, the clinic emphasises the importance of animal-assisted therapy in holistic rehabilitation.

This work is achieved with domesticated animals such as donkeys, dwarf goats, sheep, minipigs, rabbits, guinea pigs, chickens and cats. An experienced team of animal keepers ensure that the animals are well looked after.

The animals are prepared for contact with the patients. The task of the animal keepers is to make sure the animals are well and don’t become overwhelmed. Every animal also needs the chance to withdraw and rest.

We depend on donations to finance the care and maintenance of the animals and the facility. The costs total CHF 200,000.00 per year.
